This accreditation concerns the shore side facilities at the site. The process is a self-assement using a series of questions to determine which categories of disability the site can already cater for. Each category of disability is listed in Section 3 of the form, with a short explanation.
It may seem daunting with lots to think about to offer inclusive opportunities so we’ve listed some initial subjects to the left of this page that you may wish to look at and consider like our equality videos and our Centres of Excellence.
We can offer training for volunteers to gain a greater awareness of disabilities and we have a team of regional Disability Development Officersthat are on hand to help the club progress.
Sailability accredited sites are required to provide monthly feedback on disability participation. In return each accredited site has access to a wide range of advice and information including free resources to support their sailors and volunteers. Sites are also promoted as disabled sailing providers through our online facility search ‘Where’s my nearest’. This status is renewable each season to ensure we are offering the most up to date information to sailors and volunteers.
To apply for Sailability accreditation a site must be either Affiliated to the RYA or a recognised RYA Training Centre. To submit an application please download and complete the assessment form and return it to firstname.lastname@example.org or Sailability at RYA House, Ensign Way, Hamble, SO31 4YA.
