FAQ's

Can I sail in windy conditions?
Yes.  The sails on the boat can be put on the boat in a way that makes them smaller, this allows you to get on the water. There will always be a team from the venue that will make sure that the conditions are safe for you to sail in.

Disability, impairment, Special needs?
The venue will do everything possible to make your experience as fun and comfortable as possible, and work with a wide range of abilities, if you are concerned in anyway regarding going sailing just ask someone from the group.

I’ve never sailed before, can I take part?
For your first few times there will be a team member for the sailing club who will take you out on the water and show you the ropes. Check out the BBC inspired video of Goz and Ross. They had not sailed before, got into a boat and went sailing on a windy day.

What do I wear or bring?
The venue can provide you with a buoyancy aid to go sailing in. Please bring some footwear that you don’t mind if it gets wet like an old pair of trainers or similar (not wellies).  You will want to dress in clothes that allow a bit of movement and will keep you warm. Bring a spare change of clothes to change into for after your session. Sometimes there may be a small amount of spray when sailing along or we may go sailing in the rain.

I'm a bit uneasy around water, is sailing for me?
Come and see what the venue offers. You do not have to get on the water on your first visit. You will be shown round the club facilities and talked through what other people are doing on the water. You could go out in a large powerboat so you can get on the water and see the great views before stepping into a sailing boat. The sailing club team will support you and work at you pace.
