About Sail for Gold
The RYA Sail for Gold campaign created a lasting legacy for sailing by using the London 2012 Games as a platform to inspire and excite over 100,000 people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, from all over the country to take to the water.
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games provides us all with a unique opportunity to really promote our sport nationally and your club or training centre locally and for us all to have some fun!
People will naturally be much more sport oriented as we move closer to the Games and so it’s a great chance to really inspire them to have a go at sailing and hopefully engage them on an on-going basis, perhaps as a member of your club, or learning to sail at your training centre.
RYA Sail for Gold programme
The Sail for Gold programme, launched in March 2011, provides clubs and training centres with a framework of activities and events, both on and off the water that they can tailor to suit their needs.
Sail for Gold Activators
Each club or training centre that has signed up for the Sail for Gold programme has appointed a ‘Sail for Gold Activator’ who will be the focal person for receiving information on the events and activities that are being planned, as well as resources and materials from the RYA.
We hope that together we can inspire new and existing sailors to get out on the water, make clubs the focal point for members to join in the spirit of the Olympics, and show our support for the world's most successful Olympic sailing team; the British sailing team.
