Corporate Opportunities
Following their outstanding success in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, the Sailors of the British Olympic and Paralympic Teams currently continue to be supported by UK Sport and the Lottery Sports fund.
However - to maintain the current levels of success, additional sources of funding are required and a shortage of funding remains for technical projects and for supporting the transition of and legacy for, young and talented sailors aspiring to become Britain’s future Olympic and Paralympic sailors.
The Sail for Gold Ball is an important source for this essential funding shortfall and provides an unforgettable celebration for the sailors as they prepare to represent their Country on the ultimate sporting stage.
- Organised by the Royal Yachting Association, The Sail for Gold Ball is held in support of Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic Team Sailors in their quest for medals at the 2012 Olympic Games in Weymouth & Portland.
- Held every Olympic year only, the Ball has a justifiable reputation as the most significant social event in the Olympic and Paralympic Classes sailing calendar. It is hoped that HRH The Princess Royal, President of the RYA will, as previously, host this prestigious occasion.
- Corporate Opportunities: A wide range of opportunities exists for organisations wishing to promote their products or services at the Ball including the website, the RYA Magazine and the specially commissioned Souvenir Programme. The Ball affords excellent business to business contact, client hospitality and staff incentives in a prestigious atmosphere.
- Attendance at the Sail for Gold Ball in 2012 will include the sailors selected to compete for Team GB and Paralympics GB in Weymouth and Portland, as well as guests from the worlds of commerce, politics, the arts and media representatives.
- Olympic Success: Sailing is one of the most consistently successful Olympic sports in the United Kingdom and Great Britain is the world’s top Olympic Classes sailing nation having brought home 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medals from China 2008, 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals from Athens 2004 as well as 3 Gold and 2 Silver medals from Sydney 2000. British sailors have won medals at every Olympic Games they have attended since 1932 (except 1960).
- Facts and Figures: Over 4200 guests have attended the quadrennial Sail for Gold Balls since 1992. The Sail for Gold Ball in 2012, under the same direction, aims to harness the momentum created by these previous events, all of which contributed substantially to Olympic sailing success and funds.
- Featuring the presentation of the British Olympic and Paralympic Team Sailors, the aim of the Ball is two fold: FUN- and FUND-raising and will include entertainment for all - from international sailors to committed landlubbers!
Support of the Sail for Gold Ball in 2012 will help to ensure British sailors not only bring back a glittering collection of medals from London, but also have the financial backing for success at the 2016 Games in Brazil and beyond.
