Mark Layers
Attendance at a Mark Layers Seminar, and passing the associated examination and/or performance assessment, is a prerequisite for an application to become a Regional or National Mark Layer.
National Mark Laying Seminars
This is a two day seminar which is part of the qualification for National status. The seminar contains a mixture of classroom and on the water practical work. There is a 30 question multi-choice examination to be completed in 30 minutes with a pass mark of 70%. In addition to the written examination the on the water element forms part of the overall assessment. Candidates attending this seminar must be a Regional Mark Layer or a National Mark Layer (attending as a refresher) unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Regional Mark Laying Seminars
This is a one day seminar as part of the qualification for Regional status. The seminar contains a mixture of classroom and on the water practical work. The on the water element forms part of the overall assessment and this is carried out continuously. There is no formal examination associated with this seminar.
