RYA Volvo 420 Transition Training

At Transition level 420's can be sailed by boys crews or girls crews. Sailors should note that mixed crews are only eligible for selection to the RYA Volvo National Youth Squad in exceptional circumstances. As such mixed crews will only be invited to RYA Volvo Transition Training in exceptional circumstances.

RYA Volvo 420 Open Transition Training and 420 Class Association Training.

Following thorough discussions with the 420 Class Association it is our intention for the Open Training group and the RYA group to train as one i.e there will be no differentation between RYA Volvo Open Transition Training and 420 Class Training at the 3 following events:

• 26th and 27th September 2009 - Itchenor Sailing Club 
• 31st October and 1st November 2009 - Oxford Sailing Club
• 21st and 22nd November 2009 - Grafham Sailing Club

This will enable sailors of all ages to access the same standard of coaching in order to develop their sailing skills.  Many of the coaches at the Open training weekends also work on the RYA Volvo Youth programme.

Sailors who are eligible for the RYA Volvo Transition Training (please see guidelines) should attend the 420 End of Season Championships at Grafham in November in addition to the Open Training events list above in order to be considered for the RYA Volvo Transition Training Squad which will be selected in December 2009.

What you need to do now:
Go to the 420 Class Association website: www.420sailing.org.uk to enter and pay for the open training events above. You will also be able to find details and timings for the weekends on the website. Please note that pre-booking is essential.

420 TT 1    16th and 17th January 2010 - GWC
420 TT 2    30th and 31st January 2010 - WPNSA
420 TT 3    13th and 14th February 2010 - WPNSA
420 TT 4    20th and 21st March 2010 - WPNSA
420 TT International Regatta - Dates and Venue TBC
