More adults SAILING more often
One of the RYA’s primary objectives is to inspire more adults to go sailing more often. The RYA Sport Development Department is keen to engage with RYA clubs and training centres for this project. The initial focus is to encourage existing sailors to get more active and out on the water more often, but will include attracting newcomers to the sport. Funding for this initiative has come through a successful application to Sport England as part of the RYA Whole Sport Plan 2009 - 2013.
Please also note that all these funding schemes are limited. Therefore if you want to get involved please get in touch with Adam McGovern, your Regional Development Officer, contact details above.
More adults SAILING more often – NE summary
Three Regional Club Coaches (RCC) have been trained and are active within the NE region. 13 clubs were visited by RCCs and now have up to date club development plans (CDP) identifying areas of development for adult participation. 6 of those clubs received further coaching to help implement their development plans (instructor training, race coaching, RTC paper work, open day support etc). Clubs who can demonstrate potential to increase and improve regular adult participation will be supported by further RCC days in 2010/11. Several clubs have already identified and requested potential support from their RCC within their CDP.
RTC Inspections
As a RTC, your Regional Development Officer (RDO) will appoint an RYA Inspector each year to visit your club/centre when RYA training is taking place. The inspection is intended to be an informative and supportive process. Apart from the obvious requirement; ensuring the teaching, equipment and safety are satisfactory, the Inspector can help you identify ways of improving your courses, depending on his/her specific expertise.
During the visit the Inspector may make recommendations, these will be listed on a report form that the Principal and Inspector will agree a date for implementation. For further information the ‘Guidance Notes for RYA Training Centres in the UK’ can be found on the training section of the main RYA website.
If you have any questions in regards to your RTC Annual Inspection in the North East andYorkshire, please do not hesitate to contact your RDO:
