Has any one any recent experience of buying personal medical insurance for cruising? Of course, a EHIC is useful in European waters, but I was surprised to find that my Travel Insurance that says it does Medical Expenses would be useless when boating. It says "Coastal Waters Only" and not more than 3 miles off shore NOt much help if you were crosing the Atlantic or even the Channel. Some policies exclude "manual labour" and "dangerous environments" and I have heard of policies said to be invalidated if operating a winch in a gale.

Has anyone found a suitable insurer?

I did, but I've lost their contact details, I'm afraid. They were recommended by Elite Sail Training (http://www.elitesailing.co.uk/2004/sailingweekends.htm) when I booked a practical sail training course with them - you could try giving Elite a call and asking who their recommended insurer is - they are very heplful.
