    Honorary Treasurer

    A vacancy is forthcoming on the board of directors of The Royal Yachting Association Scotland (RYA Scotland) and we are actively seeking an energetic, forward thinking individual to appoint as Honorary Treasurer. We are able to offer a supported period of transition through to June 2018 when the new Honorary Treasurer will formally take up position.

    RYA Scotland is the recognised governing body in Scotland for all forms of boating, including dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sports boats, windsurfing, inland cruising, canal boats and personal watercraft.

    Our purpose is; to protect and promote successful, rewarding boating across Scotland. We represent several thousand individual members, support a growing number of local clubs and training centres and work with a diverse range of partners to achieve our aims.

    We have responsibility for delivering Scottish athletes to the UK Olympic programme, developing the grass roots of the sport, supporting the training and club infrastructure across Scotland and representing the interests and needs of the recreational boating community. This extensive portfolio is overseen by the Management Committee (our Board) and Council of RYA Scotland and is supported by specialist committees and a staff of twelve. We are a dedicated team who consider serving our community a privilege.

    The Honorary Treasurer sits within a Management Committee of six who provide strategic direction and governance to the business. The committee is the legal board of directors for RYA Scotland, a company limited by guarantee with an annual turnover of around £700k.

    The main duties of the Treasurer are to ensure that RYA Scotland meets its regulatory commitments and that our financial position and practice remains robust. These duties are in the main supervisory, as RYA Scotland has a team of professional staff to support this function. A more detailed description of the role is available in Related Documents.

    The Management Committee seeks an individual who has the vision, skills and experience to take the lead on strategic financial planning and to guide the organisation into the future. This senior voluntary role will provide the successful candidate with an interesting, exciting and enjoyable portfolio of responsibilities.

    An interest in boating is desirable but not essential – we would be delighted to introduce you to our world and the warm community within which we operate.

    Regional Development Officer (East Scotland) 


    It is an exciting time to be part of Royal Yachting Association Scotland, the Governing Body for sailing and all forms of boating in Scotland. Clubs are at the heart of all we do within RYA Scotland and we are beginning to see results from the Focus Club Support Programme. In order to continue to develop the local growth in capacity, we are seeking to recruit a Regional Development Officer to be part of our Participation and Development team.

    The principle focus of the Regional Development Officer is club support and development. The approach involves considerable one to one work with clubs and success will be measured in terms of the Club’s development towards their own goals and increase in membership. The Regional Development Officer will report to the Development Manager and be supported by a broader team including our Marketing & Communication Managers, Coach Education Development Manager and the Class and Academy Officer.

    This post involves regular evening and weekend work, occasional overnights and travel across the UK and also involves regulated work with children. Employment is conditional on the successful candidate being able to obtain/holding PVG scheme membership and having access to a car.

    Salary £24,600*

    *Benefits package include a generous pension and life insurance, discounted staff rates on a range of marine related products, as well as 26 days holiday plus bank and public holidays
