Honda Youth RIB

Scottish Area Final - Saturday 3rd June 2017 at Port Edgar Marina

Interested in testing yourself against the best in Scotland for safe powerboat driving - then the Honda RYA Youth RIB Scottish Area Finals are for you!!

RYA Scotland and RYA together with Honda & Highfield offer the opportunity for youngsters 8-16yrs to demonstrate their skills in Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) with the chance to participate in the National Final held on 17th September 2017 at the PSP Southampton Boat Show. Once again, the National finalists shall have a chance to win a Highfield 460 or Honwave T40 for their club or centre.

The 2017 Honda RYA Youth RIB Scottish Area Finals has moved to a new venue - Port Edgar Marina - and shall be held on Saturday 3rd June 2017. This event is a great chance for young people to take part in a boat handling competition against other young people in Scotland.

There are two classes for the Area Finals and National event:

  • 8 - 12 yrs - should not have had their 13th birthday before 17th Sept 2017
  • 13 - 16 yrs - should not have had their 17th birthday before 17th Sept 2017

Clubs/centres should preferably hold heats to select their best and most proficient young power boaters for each age category. Further information, including sample courses, on this can be found in the RYA Honda Youth RIB section of the website.

For the Scottish Area Final, clubs/centres are able to nominate one competitor for each age group (if you would like to enter more then please get in touch). Nominations/applications forms should be completed and sent to RYA Scotland by Wednesday 31st May 2017.

New for 2017 Event

A new addition to the event for this year is the chance for people to try their hand at driving a Powerboat around a Taster/practise course, with an instructor, that will be set up at the venue. This opportunity to try and test skills as well as learn more about how to safely drive a Powerboat is open to both children (8yrs and upwards) and adults (parents, instructors etc.). A separate consent form is required for this and will need a signature of a parent or guardian if the participant is under 18yrs.

Please note that competitors in the main Scottish Area Finals Event can also have a go on the Taster course but only after they've finished competing in the main event.
