Salary: Competitive - Band 6 SMT

The RYA is the National Governing Body for a broad range of sailing and boating activities with an extensive network of affiliated clubs, class associations and training centres. We are a membership organisation of over 100,000 members and a world-leading provider of training schemes and publications. The RYA is also home to the British Sailing Team, the most successful Olympic sailing nation in history. We are immensely proud of our heritage and in 2025 we will celebrate our 150th anniversary – a perfect opportunity to promote the value of sailing and boating in supporting the health and wellbeing of society in the future. Our plans for growth mean we’re looking for a Director of Legal, Governance and Integrity to join our team.
You will be responsible for establishing the Legal, Governance and Integrity Department, with existing functions and their teams in order to support the RYA, in achieving the highest standards of corporate governance, risk management and integrity. You will lead through effective collaboration with all other RYA departments, supporting and enabling excellent governance, safeguarding and a commitment to position integrity practices central to how the RYA operates. Through the lens of corporate risk, you will help to create ways of working that will support a collaborative culture - one that enables and empowers colleagues to drive sustainable change. You will be able to balance legal and ethical considerations in decision-making processes and draw on your effective communication and influencing skills, to ensure early engagement and nurturing of relationships with key stakeholders. You will be a strategic thinker, but action orientated happy to roll up your sleeves and support others to deliver.
