Sport England and Crowdfunder announce 1 million of match funding

Sailing clubs may be able to access match funding through a collaboration between Sport England and Crowdfunder. This will see £1 million of match funding been made available to help the sport and physical activity sector through the coronavirus pandemic, this is in addition to the up to 210m coronavirus support package already announced by Sport England.

As we know many sailing clubs and voluntary groups across England are facing financial hardship at this time. This scheme is aimed at continuing their cash flow, diversifying their funding streams and ensuring they're ready to reopen as soon as it's safely possible.

This fund will focus on not for profit organisations who play a role in keeping their communities active. If your club is experiencing short term financial difficulty and have ceased operations because of the current crisis you may want to consider setting up a crowdfunding campaign.

What is Crowdfunder?

On Crowdfunder, people pledge money in return for a reward which can be a product, benefit or service. The Crowdfunder platform is scrapping all its fees for the Active Together (Sport England's Extra Funding Scheme during the COVID-19 crisis) programme and is covering transaction charges to ensure every penny raised by a club goes to them

How can I find out more?

Clubs and organisations can sign up via the Crowdfunder website. They'll then need to set their crowdfunding target and put in place incentives and rewards. These rewards might include a raffle ticket (for donated prizes), hire of the club house, day sails, hire of club or boats. Then, if your application to the fund is approved you'll get match funding of up to 50% towards your initial crowdfunding target, up to a maximum of £10,000.
