RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year supported by Gallagher

Could your club be crowned the winner? Nominations will open on 01 August for the RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Award 2021 (closing 21 September).

The RYA Awards Panel will select a finalist for each RYA region as well as two 'wild card' entries. The panel will provide five clubs with recognition for achievements in the following areas

  • Heart of the community
  • Modern and Innovative
  • Sustainability
  • Inclusive and open to all
  • Boosting membership

All finalists will then go through to a public vote with the overall winner selected by RYA members, Yachts & Yachting readers and the Panel. The overall winner of the 2021 RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year will be announced at the RYA Dinghy Show in February.

RYA Club Membership Census

Thank you to all clubs who have already completed the 2020 RYA Club Memberships Census. All data we receive will contribute to enabling us to monitor progress, tailor our programmes and shape our future bids for further resourcing and ultimately support clubs.

For the insights to be credible we need at least 85% of clubs in each region to respond, making every club's response important. Please complete the census by 12:00 Thursday-13th-August 2020. If you can do this on a similar date to previous years and by the deadline that would be very helpful.

Meet the new RYA Safeguarding and Equality Manager

This month we welcome Katie Loucaides who has been appointed as the new RYA Safeguarding & Equality Manager. Katie has taken the baton from Jackie Reid who left us for retirement at the end of June.

Katie join us from a third sector background including her role at Guide Dogs for the blind where she delivered safeguarding training to both staff and volunteers and worked to develop local diversity and equality action plans.

"It's been a a big change moving from dogs to boats but the office is much quieter with no puppies or dogs barking and I'm really looking forward to continuing the fantastic work that the RYA are already doing with safeguarding and equality".

Katie will be getting in touch with all Child Welfare Officers and disclosure verifiers in due course but if anyone would like to get in touch please drop her a line at Katie.Loucaides@rya.org.uk

Last chance to apply for JMST boats and boards with RYA OnBoard

Applications are open for young sailors and windsurfers to apply for a brand new single-handed junior pathway boat or board thanks to the John Merricks Sailing Trust (JMST) and RYA OnBoard partnership which is now in its final year.

The boats and boards will be gifted to promising youngsters who display enthusiasm, drive, and commitment to the sport and who may not ordinarily have the opportunity or financial backing to achieve their goals.

If you know a sailor 14 years old or younger who could benefit from use of their own boat or board here's how to apply
