The British Youth Sailing (BYS) Regional Junior Championships will be returning to venues across England and the Home Countries at the end of September.
This annual celebration of all that’s great about junior sailing aims to be fun and inclusive for under-16s of all abilities and will once again include Championship fleets for experienced sailors, Regatta fleets for rookie racers and OnBoard fleets for those who are new to the sport.
“There really is something for everyone!” says Tim Hall, Regional Performance Manager for the Midlands. “It’s all about having a good time and inspiring junior sailors of all ages and abilities. If you’re a racing sailor, come along and show us what you can do. And if you’re a less experienced racer, or maybe a younger sibling not quite ready for the championship fleet, come and join the Regatta or OnBoard fleet and we’ll support you.”
“We have lots to celebrate after last year, when many events were affected by either Covid restrictions or adverse weather conditions, so we’re really looking forward to the return of this annual festival of junior sailing. Please do share the details with juniors and parents at your club because it will be a great opportunity for our young sailors to get on the water with friends, develop their skills and of course have lots of fun!”
Along with prizes for event winners, there will be a range of prizes for sailors exhibiting British Youth Sailing Values and Behaviours and showing a passion for the sport. There is also the Club Trophy for the club that has the most entries at the event.

How do I enter?
JOHN MERRICKS SAILING TRUST
Do you know a deserving young sailor or windsurfer who would benefit from their own boat or board to help them develop their racing skills?
John Merricks Sailing Trust (JMST) will again be awarding a boat or board to at least one promising young sailor or windsurfer selected from each of the nine BYS Regional Junior Championship events.
The awards will be made to those who display enthusiasm, drive, talent and commitment to the sport and who may not ordinarily have the opportunity or financial backing to achieve their goals, and will give the recipients two years of exclusive use of their own boat or board donated by the Trust, after which they will be gifted to their club so other young sailors can benefit in the future.
Applications are now open. Find out more about the JMST scheme here.
