We are now starting to plan the content for both the Affiliated Clubs Conference and Club Development Sessions programme and we would really value your help with ideas for how we ensure these events remain useful and relevant to clubs. This is your opportunity to feed in the ideas that you have always wanted to learn more about so that you can improve the offering your club gives to its members or potential members. Tell us what you think!
ReDiscover & Discover Sailing
A number of clubs are now planning and looking forward to hosting Discover Sailing open days or sessions to encourage people to return to the water in 2021 or give sailing and windsurfing a go. It is not too late for your club to benefit from these RYA campaigns. All the information you need is available in Club Zone and we also have some top tips for you!
Volunteer Awards
Each year the RYA Volunteer awards recognise the outstanding contribution made by volunteers throughout the UK and nominations for 2022 are now open. Do you know a hardworking volunteer, young or old, who really makes a difference to your club either behind the scenes or in helping others to get out on the water? Or is there an individual or family who helps to keep your club on an even keel? An RYA Volunteer Award is a fantastic way to say thank you!
Barts Bash
Clubs and their members are once again invited to sign up for Bart’s Bash, the flagship annual event of the Andrew Simpson Foundation and inspired by Olympic gold and silver medallist Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, who passionately believed that everyone should have the chance to try sailing and enjoy the many benefits that it brings. The unique format provides a ‘race for all’ which is perfect for sailors of all ages and skill levels and this year’s Bart’s Bash weekend will be 11-12th September.
Equality, diversity and inclusion workshop
The RYA is thrilled to announce that it has partnered with Chirs Gibbons, the director of Inside Inclusion to deliver a virtual equality, diversity and Inclusion workshop, which has been specifically designed for committee and board members. Chris has over 15 years’ experience helping businesses to embed diversity, equality, inclusion and anti-discrimination in their work. While his clients represent a range of sectors in the UK and globally, much of his experience comes from the sport industry and, in particular, grassroots and professional football and governing bodies of sport.
This interactive and practical session will be delivered on Thursday the 24th of June from 19:00 – 20:30 and will give committees and boards the opportunity to explore:
• Back to basics: what we mean by equality, diversity and inclusion in sport
• The benefits of a diverse and inclusive culture across boating
• Discrimination and its impact
• The building blocks of an inclusive club
• What you can do next
An email will be sent over the next couple of days inviting you to this session.
If anyone has any questions or queries about this session they can email the Safeguarding and Equality Manager on equality@rya.org.uk
