Steve Mitchell, Regional Development Officer, writes:

The Regional Junior Championships in late September were a great success including a strong turn out in the OnBoard fleet with several regional OnBoard providers sending along young sailors for their first event. Next year's event will be much earlier in the year on 18 & 19 June - save the date now!

Affiliated Clubs Conference 21 November.
I am pleased to announce that this year the Affiliated Clubs Conference will be in delivered over two in two formats – online & face to face:

Online - 8 November 1930 to 2130hrs
A national online session with keynote speakers and interviews.
This event is not limited to the number of people attending from each club so we would like to encourage clubs to share this to the wider committee / membership who are interested in club development.

Face to face conference - 21 November 1000 to 1500hrs
Venue: New Line Learning Academy, Maidstone, Kent.
This format will enable us to reconnect and provide networking opportunities between clubs. Also, more time for discussing challenges and successes during the workshops.

Due to venue size we will be limiting the event to two representatives from each club. If your club feels more than two representatives are necessary please contact me to discuss on  Booking is made by each representative; there is no group booking option.

Please follow this link to book you space at either or both events

Portsmouth Yardstick - We would like to encourage clubs to return Portsmouth Yardstick information by December.

RYA Mustow Youth Awards nominations are open. The search is on for this season’s most successful and inspiring young sailors, windsurfers and powerboaters. If you know a young sailor who makes a difference find out more and nominate them Closing 1 November.

From the Chair

Regional Team Chair Helen Hofmann writes:

With the main watersports season winding down, it has been encouraging to hear of increased watersports activity over the summer months. The first indications from the RYA Club Census are that club membership in the region has had a huge recovery with membership levels bouncing back to pre-pandemic levels. If next year will be the same, there will be a further increase in the popularity of watersports which clubs and centres will need to be prepared for. Many thanks to all affiliated clubs which completed the census - it certainly helps with strategic planning on both micro and macro levels. The RYA Affiliated Clubs Conference is a resource for clubs to attend, with both online and in person opportunities available. Please do register for this. It's an opportunity to gain insight and prepare for the coming season.

As my four year term of office as Chair comes to a close, thanks go to the Regional Team for their unwavering support especially during the difficult pandemic. With RYA area reps in place throughout the region now, my successor will be able to build further on the stronger RYA representation in the region which is there to support clubs and centres as best as possible.
