However there is still plenty of sailing time left before we sit down for those Christmas dinners!
October was another busy month and it was great to see another six OnBoard volunteers trained as Dinghy Instructors at Derwent Water Marina bringing the total up to 23 people now supported through the OnBoard Instructor program supported by the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation this year. We have funding for another three courses in 2020 so if you are an OnBoard Club who would like to host a course in 2020 please get in touch.
October also saw the final events in both the NW Senior & Junior Traveller events. Congratulations must go to Richard Catchpole from Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club for winning the Senior Series and Thomas Brindley from Redesmere Sailing Club for winning the Junior Series for the third consecutive year, a fantastic achievement! Full results for both series can be found on our regional website.
Our biggest event left in 2019 is the RYA NW Affiliated Club Conference which will be held on Sunday 1 December at the Anderton Centre, Chorley. We welcome several RYA staff to this year’s conference including RYA Director of Sport Development Alistair Dickson and Sailability Manager Joff McGill. Alistair, Joff as well as a host of representatives from across RYA who will be on hand throughout the day.
For full details including the agenda and how to book onto this popular conference please follow the link to the sign-up page. Spaces are limited so please book a spot ASAP. The conference is free to attend with lunch and plenty of tea and coffee included!
Planning is well underway for 2020 and I will have more information available in December's blog, however you may well be interested in the following which we have coming up in the Region:
The event originally due to be in October had to be delayed and will now be run on Saturday 23 November at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre. The blast is an afternoon of informal personal skills coaching for all RYA Dinghy and Windsurf Instructors. It is also a chance to try a range of equipment from Access Dinghies to Laser Vago’s. Windsurfers are invited to either bring their own kit or use the range of kit available from the center; all included in the low price of £15 per person.
So if you fancy a good afternoon of sailing or windsurfing with fellow instructors from the region register and pay via the website.
This year’s annual Instructor Training Day will be moving back to a Saturday and will be back at Waterside Lodge, Southport after our trip to Windermere in 2019. We have loads of great workshops planned which this year will include personal watercraft so it should be another good event. Booking will go live in early 2020 so please make a note in your diary now.
Our next Dinghy Senior Instructor Course will take place at Delph Sailing Club in March 2020. I am really pleased to be able to offer this course at a heavily reduced fee of £215 per person, this is the cheapest course we have been able to run for a number of years so I expect demand to be high with only 12 places available. Booking will go live very soon at this page.
Finally we are increasing our use of both Facebook and Instagram, so if you want to keep up to date and don’t follow us already our handles are:
