Adam’s August Anecdotes

I hope everyone’s enjoying the summer and the warm weather; I’ve been enjoying getting out and about on the water

Of course, the warm weather has brought problems; the water levels are down in all our lakes and reservoirs. When the waters are down, this can make the slipway a-long old pull to get the boats up; let’s work together and give each other a hand getting the boats back up; many hands make light work.

May I also say a massive thank you to everyone who spent the time to complete the Census. Overall we have seen a good increase in membership across the region, which is excellent news as that means there are lots of new faces in our sailing clubs; let’s make these new members feel welcome. Please do take the time to say hi and have a chat. Unfortunately, the quickest way people lose interest is if they don’t feel part of the club community.

Bassweek

Bassweek was again a fantastic success; well done to Bassenthwaite Sailing Club, who will also be the host for next year’s regional junior championships. I’m already looking forward to that event.

Date for your diaries, next year’s Bass Week is the 5th-13th August 2023.

I plan to attend the Elton event, not to sail as I’m not old enough for the seniors quite yet, but to catch up with you all, so if people want to catch up, please come and see me on the 6th of September at Elton.

Try one of our dinghy trails

Finally, if you are heading to the lake district this summer, you can, of course, try one of our dinghy trails; these are for anyone who wants to get out on the water and have an adventure, but with a bit of guidance, so you know where you’re going.

Or better still, join us for our Dinghy Cruising Company; back on the 17th of September, we will set off from Ullswater Yacht Club, where accompanied by safety boats, we will depart anticlockwise to the southern end of Ullswater at Glenridding.

Camping is available at Ullswater on Friday and Saturday for people who want to stay over; there’s also a BBQ on Saturday, so please do come and join us for a lovely day on the water.

Finally, if you are short of senior dinghy instructors

don’t forget our next course is in October on the picturesque Coniston water.

For now, enjoy the summer, there’s plenty left, get down to your clubs, enjoy your membership, and I look forward to seeing photos of you all out on the water.
