The Training Forum, intended to bring together those involved in training and skill development within the region's boating community, has been relaunched as the Training and Development Forum. As before, the Forum will cover training, coaching and development for sailors of smaller sailing craft including dinghies, keelboats and windsurfers. All matters associated with racing sailing craft will also be covered.
Membership is open to anyone who has an interestin training or development within the region and is certainly notrestricted to ‘qualified’ instructors or coaches. The formatof the meeting is very flexible and does not involve the traditional reading of reports, minutes etc. Reports from theRegional Development Officer and High Performance Manager arecirculated beforehand and both of these post holders are usually inattendance to answer any questions members may have. The aim is an evening of lively discussion about training and how it fits into other club activities.
Our aim isto include at least one topic which attendees wouldfind useful in enhancing their own teaching techniques or which couldhelp in the development of their club or centre.Atthe first meeting we were treated to an interesting presentation aboutcoaching sail and rig tuning which was well received by both keelboatand dinghy sailors present. In the past we have introduced a varietyof topics including…………. fundingstreams, defibrillator use, coaching starting techniques, how tobecome RYA club of the year! Amongst many others.Manyattendees find that the regular opportunity for networking withlike-minded people from other clubs is particularly invaluable and wealways give plenty of time for this.At themoment we plan to hold 3 /4 meeting per year at various locations andit is intended that some of the sessions will be practical water-based opportunities.
We wouldlike you to encourage people from your club or centre to join theforum mailing list and come along to at least one of our regularmeetings. We will be delighted to see you and hear your views aboutclub life in the North West.Forfurther information or to join our mailing group simple contact Dave Eccles, via email@example.com.
