Robbie's Blog August 2020

Hi everyone,

Its been great to see more activity happening at clubs, with plenty of members taking the opportunity presented by the good weather to get on the water. Its been good to see a wide variety of activity taking place from cruising to racing in the region and Ive enjoyed seeing the content on social media, along with some excellent YouTube videos supporting members in getting back on the water.

RYA Club Membership Census

Firstly, Id like to extend a huge thank you to all those clubs who have been responding to the RYA Club Membership Census over recent weeks. The data that comes from the census is essential for us to understand what is happening at clubs in the East, and this is particularly important in light of the Coronavirus Pandemic. If your club has not yet sent its return, please could I encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

The RYA Affiliated Club Conference 2020

Whilst the current situation has meant that we will be unable to run a Conference in its usual manner, we are very excited that a new, online Affiliated Club Conference is being planned for the end of November. More details will be released about this soon, but it is looking to be a great event, with a new format and a variety of sessions.

Planning for the Winter

As we have had one of the most unusual seasons, our attention is now turning to planning for the winter season, and the East Region team is working to develop a plan for this winter. Keeping club members engaged over the winter is going to be more crucial than ever, so finding ways to do this will be vitally important. if you have any feedback as to how we can support clubs, please get in touch.

Rediscover Sailing

As you are aware, unfortunately Discover Sailing 2020 was not able to happen, but over the past few weeks we've been increasingly hearing from clubs that are not only seeing more interest and activity from their club membership but are also attracting new members from those who are returning to our sport, either by getting the boat which has sat in their garden for a few years out on the water, or have taken the plunge and bought one in order get out on the water. If this has happened at your club, please do get in touch wed love to hear from you.

British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships

The East British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships, which are scheduled to take place at Grafham Water Sailing Club on 26/27 September, are still planned to go ahead, with booking opening soon. This event is a real highlight of the year for many young sailors, so I am sure you will be looking forward to this.

Hope to see you soon!
