RB Blog - August

Robbie's Blog for August

Hi everyone,

Over the past month it’s been good to see activity continue at clubs across the region, with many regatta and cadet weeks currently in full swing.

RYA Club Census

Many thanks to those clubs that have completed the 2021 RYA Club Census – this information is extremely helpful in identifying areas of need and helping us to provide support to clubs where it is most needed. If your club has not yet submitted its return, please do so as soon as possible. You can find out more about the Census here.

How can your Club benefit from the Olympics success?

With the recent sailing achievements at the Olympics (including Giles Scott’s Gold Medal in the Finn Class – who hails from Huntingdon), and Great Britain becoming the most successful sailing nation at Tokyo 2020, how will your Club be celebrating? Perhaps you might want to do something at your junior week or regatta to celebrate the successes of your sailors? Whatever you choose to do, why not make the most of the enthusiasm and buzz around sailing to inspire the next generation?

British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships

With sailors starting at grassroots level, can you set your young sailors the goal of participating in this year’s OnBoard Fleet at the RYA British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships, which take place on 25/26September at Grafham Water. The idea of the event is to introduce young sailors to participating in events outside of their club, whilst building confidence, having fun, and taking part in games with aims. The OnBoard fleet is ideal for those aged 13 and under, to sail in any suitable class of dinghy. Booking for the Championship fleet, Regatta Fleet and OnBoard is open now and closes on 19th August, you can find out more here, and book onto the event here.

Regional Development Opportunities

Following the recent Regional Senior Instructor Course, it has been great to see new SI’s out managing activity in the Region. We have also delivered safety boat training for 18 people and the second subsidised Powerboat instructor course is taking place soon, this is fully booked, however for further information about future development opportunities please keep an eye on the RYA East social media pages and web area. OnBoard providers can benefit from a free instructor development day, please do contact us if you are interested in this. If there are any other development opportunities or courses that would benefit your club please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss your needs.

Save the date

This year’s Affiliated Club Conference is on the theme of 'Planning for a successful future', and will be a hybrid event, with an online part to be held on Monday 8 November, 7.30pm-9pm, complemented by an in-person event to be held on Saturday 27 November at the Royal Hospital School. You can find out more here.
