Club Chat August 2022

RDO Blog August 2022 WoW Fest, Youth Champs, Open Training… and more This news is for club committee members and club members – anyone who is interested in what work the RYA is doing in NI. Please share.

Ahoy, everyone!

I hope you have all been enjoying the summer? Whilst Northern Irish athletes have been smashing it at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Northern Irish sailors have been proving their salt too. From John Minnis’ Final Call 2 winning a swathe of events over the summer to our topper sailors taking home medals from the worlds. Lots more to come too, with Topper British Nationals and ILCA 4 worlds this week… There will be more sailors who have won, who did we miss?! Email mary.martin@rya.org.uk with the story of your victory.

Meanwhile, in the office we are preparing for the Youth Championships, AGM and Autumn/winter programme and the arrival of our new Chief Operations Officer Gregg Yarnall.

Sport NI has launched a Sports Systems Engagement Survey to provide an opportunity for coaches, administrators, sports development staff, clubs and other organisations and individuals currently involved in the delivery of sport in Northern Ireland to provide feedback on previous Sport NI investment programmes and to help shape and inform future investment.

Further information regarding the Sports Systems Engagement Survey can be found on the Sport NI website here. Clubs and individuals can also directly access the survey using the following link: Sports Systems Engagement Survey - NI Direct - Citizen Space. Closing date for survey responses is Wednesday 31st August 2022 at 11.59pm

If you have any queries or questions in regards to the survey, please contact a member of the Sports Systems Team at the following email address: sportssystems@sportni.net.

Nominations are open for the RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Awards supported by Gallagher.

This year nominations have been simplified so that individuals can enter either their own or another club, simply by submitting a few words explaining why a particular venue deserves to be recognised.

Timeline

  • Nominations closing date is Monday 29th August.
  • Clubs will be contacted as soon as a nomination has been made with an invitation to complete an official Club of the Year application form by Monday 19th September.
  • The public vote, which will remain an integral part of the process to select an overall winner, and will open at the end of November.
  • The Club of the Year winner will then be announced at the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show, which will be returning to Farnborough next year on 25-26 February 2023.

DEVELOPMENT & PARTICIPATION

RYA Census 2022

Your club representative should have received an email this week about the RYA Membership Census. We used it to produce a picture of club membership across the UK. The results are published as insights on the RYA website and are often used by clubs to understand how their membership is evolving and relates to their local communities, so they can factor this into future membership and engagement plans. Elements of the overall results are reported to Sport England, Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Scotland and Sport Wales.

If you have not received this email or would like to see your individual club insight please email Lisa.mccaffrey@rya.org.uk

RYA Membership Census

Thank you to the clubs that have completed it. The census is still open and we ask that you complete this census as it is part of our Sport NI targets and allows Lisa to plan and develop club support programmes. Your support with this is greatly appreciated

If you have not received a census email, please contact lisa.mccaffrey@rya.org.uk
