This news is for club committee members and club members – anyone who is interested in what work the RYA is doing in NI.
Ahoy, everyone!
Great to see so much action back on the water. The season has started well with some stunning Discover Sailing happening. Clubs that we are working closely with are focusing their efforts on getting the membership active, offering programmes to those already joined. As ever, we’d love to know what you are up to! Get in touch.

UPDATE: there has only been 1 entry from NI.
Anyone who is sailing in your club – aims to take part in our youth championships – even in the regatta fleet – and whose family don’t own a boat is eligible!
Every year, the JMST Scheme provides young sailors from across the country with their equipment, which after two years is given to their supporting organisation.
The boats will be gifted to promising youngsters who display enthusiasm and commitment to the sport and who may not ordinarily have the opportunity or financial backing to achieve their goals.

DEVELOPMENT & PARTICIPATION
Welcome to OnBoard
We are delighted that 3 new clubs have become OnBoard. East Antrim Boat Club, Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, Strangford Lough Yacht Club.
OnBoard is the RYA's children's sailing and windsurfing programme. It offers children the opportunity to try watersports through their local club or centre in a safe, fun and structured environment.
This is a development programme that provides clubs/instructors with a variety resources once you sign up. Interested in knowing more about the OnBoard programme contact lisa.mccaffrey@rya.org.uk
RYA Census
Your club representative should have received an email this week about the RYA Membership Census. We used it to produce a picture of club membership across the UK. The results are published as insights on the RYA website and are often used by clubs to understand how their membership is evolving and relates to their local communities, so they can factor this into future membership and engagement plans. Elements of the overall results are reported to Sport England, Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Scotland and Sport Wales.
If you have not received this email or would like to see your individual club insight please email Lisa.mccaffrey@rya.org.uk

OLDER NEWS
RYA Census Insights for Northern Ireland are now available. Thank you to all our clubs who took part in this as it’s key for our planning and funding. There has been a lot of instructor training going on and still lots more to come. I’m already looking at the schedule for the Autumn. Exam pressure, event pressure, and other reasons have led to the cancellation of the proposed course at Easter. But I have confirmed that there will be a DI course in July – pre-entry dates available for booking. Also on the cards pre-summer is an advanced instructor endorsement (dinghy). Get in touch if that is of interest to you.
