RDO Blog October
This news is for club committee members and club members – anyone who is interested in what work the RYA is doing in NI - please share.
Hi everyone,
While the boats start coming out of the water, we, in the office get into a higher gear with our Autumn and Winter programmes, designed to help you/your sailors’ plan & prepare for the next season. First up is our AGM. The club should have received the paperwork for that already, and this year is particularly special as well have a vote for the role of Vice-Chair. Make sure your club has its say. For more information, or if your club hasn’t received its pack, email gayle.logan@rya.og.uk
Following that a series of forums, the affiliate club conference, instructor courses, finalisation of squad selection into the training programme proper. Lots for you all to get involved with.
The first forum is already causing a bit of a stir as we are going to be driving the conversation around keelboat sailing, participation and racing. We want to know what you or your club/centre are currently doing, so please come along and have a say.
We are also re-starting the Open Training programme, it will have events for junior classes, but we don’t want to restrict it to that. If you have an idea or would like to be the venue for some open training, give me a shout! Dates and venues are already in planning, but we think we could do more with your help.
Keep in touch,
Mary Martin

REPRESENTATION
Guidance on the Energy Bill Relief Scheme: help for businesses and other non-domestic customers (Northern Ireland) has now been published:
The scheme will be available to everyone on a non-domestic contract, who meet certain criteria. This includes:
It will be automatically applied to bills from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023.
It come as welcome news following the initial announcement by the UK Government in September and uncertainty on its roll out in Northern Ireland. The voluntary sector continues to see ever-increasing costs of energy that is putting additional strains on sports clubs and organisations.
The NI Sports Forum continues to engage with representatives across parties to raise key issues on behalf of member organisations.

Equality & Diversity in the sport.
RYANI Staff and Board members have met on the subject of equality in our sport following feedback from an RYA UK-wide equality monitoring survey. Many thanks to those of you who answered it. Looking at the diversity of our members and uncovering barriers to those not currently in our sport is a way for us to increase the numbers who partake. The data collected also help us to explain to need to potential funders. We are planning some more work in this area over the next couple of years.
RYA & RYANI have responded to the consultation by DEARA on proposed legislation around Fast Craft and personal watercraft.
