As we wrap up the Youth Championships kit and look at the successes and learning for next year, it is time to think about autumn, with end of season boating for some, and preparations for hauling out, shorebased and other winter activities. Time to consider what might be possible next season also! Thanks to Wavelength Image by the way! Photos for each fleet etc are at (11) RYA Northern Ireland | Facebook
The majority of club census returns are now in, and there is a final push for the last handful, so please help with that. It really does guide us with setting future programmes, and funding these. Thank you for your support with all this!
You may be aware that instructor/race coach development and centre inspections have been difficult due to the lack of available personnel. This situation is starting to improve and we have been able to start planning more activity.
Give your venue a boost - Get OnBoard: The RYA's grass roots programme for junior sailing and windsurfing can grow participation, boost membership and support your venue. If you already have RYA Training Centre recognition, and are running either of the Youth Sailing or Youth Windsurfing Schemes, you can apply directly for OnBoard recognition, online. Simply click here www.cognitoforms.com/RYA2/ApplicationForRYAOnBoard
Pathway Club: RYANI works in partnership with sailing clubs through a Recognised Club Programme to help them establish or further develop their junior race training.
Being recognised gives a club status and access to additional resources to support young sailors to develop their sailing and racing skills, helping a club grow its young membership base.
To achieve Pathway Recognised Club status, a club must demonstrate that it runs a regular race training programme within at least one of the BYS Recognised Classes. In order to achieve the high standards of training that are expected, training must be delivered by qualified RYA Coaches to RYA Recognised Training Centre standards (or equivalent) with Safeguarding in place. To all Instructors and junior/youth co-ordinators: We are delighted to promote our first OnBoard Development Day. This will be on Saturday 16th October 2021 at Southlakes Leisure Centre, Craigavon (who were our first OnBoard centre here in NI)
This day will be for instructors, and youth/junior programme coordinators from clubs/centres that are currently running Onboard or aiming to become an OB centre. On the day you will find out what OB is and the will be some instructor CPD on the water to practice with the session cards.
Spaces are limited so place book early to secure you space. More info and bookings here - https://bit.ly/3BX7FWd
Club Development Programme: This is starting again, with a session already open for Creating a Club Development Plan (online) register here
Using the new RYA website: Some may have difficulty reaching certain areas of the website, as permissions may be required in a different way to before. To access Clubzone, Training support, and to see and update your personal qualifications, you need to login. Once this is done you may need to go a stage further:
• For Clubzone, link your login to your club name and give the club’s Clubzone access 6 digit number (contact us if you need a reminder of this). This links you to a Club account.
• For Training Support, link your login to your RTC name. This links you to a Training Centre.
• To register qualifications, you will need to be a RTC Principal or to become a RTC Primary Contact or Certificate Administrator.
• Good Luck!
John Mericks Sailing Trust (JMST) applications are still open for young sailors and windsurfers to apply for a brand new single-handed junior pathway boat or board.
Eligible sailors must be under 15 years of age on the 31st of December 2021. Sailors must enter and compete at the Regional Junior Championships in September 2020.
We want to identify any individual who may benefit who hasn’t yet heard about the scheme. The form to nominate will be open until midnight on Monday 27th September. There is no paper application unless one is specifically needed. Here is the JMST homepage for all the details.
