I have now left my previous job as centre manager atHengistbury Head Outdoor Centre and started full time as Regional Development Officerfor the south west. Having had a couple of days at HQ in Hamble, I’ve seen whata fantastic job Tony did - everyone I have met during my handover days was fullof praise for the work he has done. I wish him all the best with his newproject in Bermuda.
The Regional Junior Championships
The Regional Junior Championships are fast approaching. They’ll be taking place at WPNSA on 28 -29 September, andas well as all of the fantastic racing opportunities in the regatta and classfleets, it’s worth a reminder that there are opportunities for sailors who arenew to racing in the OnBoard fleet. In fact, the OnBoard fleet hasopportunities for both windsurfers and sailors to take part in funchallenges and races that will be led by fully qualified instructors.
Southampton Boat Show
13-22 September is when the Southampton Boat Show dominatesthe foreshore of Mayflower Park. Although it is not in our region, it is veryclose to some of our clubs and centres and I am sure that many of our sailorsmake the journey to visit the show. I am planning to attend the show for a few days and ifanyone from the region would like to meet with me it would be great to put aface to a name and maybe it will be a chance to discuss any issues oropportunities that you see within your club or centre. All I would ask is thatyou drop me an email (details below) so that we can arrange a suitable time tomeet.
Club of the Year
It was fantastic to see the Royal Torbay Yacht Club winningthe RYA Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Award for 2019, and I would loveto see other clubs in the region applying for next year’s award. It’ssuch a great opportunity – let’s carry on working towards another south westwinner!
Visiting the region
I will be out and about all over the region over the nextmonth and will be contacting many of you to see if I can come and meet you andyour sailors at your club or centre. If you feel that you would like me toprioritise a visit to your club or centre, please do not hesitate to contact me(details below) and I will do my best to get out to you quickly.
