Rob's Round-up October 19

I’ve been inCornwall over the last couple of weeks, and had fun with the phone signal aswell as visiting lots of clubs! It’s been great to meet so many people – Ithink getting round a dozen clubs on my first trip is a pretty good start. I planto be back there about every ten weeks. And wherever you are in the region, ifI haven’t got to you yet, I promise I will soon…

RYA SouthWest Affiliated Clubs Conference 2019

Booking forthis year’s Affiliated Clubs Conference is now open – don’t miss this annualfree opportunity to meet up, network, learn more about current issues and shareideas and experiences.

This year,we are very much looking forward to being in the north of the region, at TheBristol Pavilion, Gloucestershire Cricket, The Brightside Ground Bristol, NevilRoad, Bristol, BS7 9EJ on Saturday 9th November.

Theconference is about Putting people first - understanding what yourmembers, volunteers and new sailors need, and putting that at the forefront ofyour decision making. I am passionate about people being at the heart of ourclubs and centres; it is not the bricks and mortar but the people that make aclub, so I am delighted that many of the workshops look at how to attract newpeople, both sailors and volunteers, or how to give your current members themost from your club.

As usual, places are free, and lunch and refreshments are provided at no cost. It’susually a very popular event, and due to limited capacity pre-booking isessential - get in early to avoid disappointment

Junior racing news from HPM, Duncan West

Unfortunately, the Junior Championships scheduled for 28-29 September at WPNSA were cancelledbecause of the weather. Our ethos for this event is inclusive, and the forecastsuggested that it wouldn’t have been the right environment for many of theyoungsters attending their first big traveller event. I have received manyemails in support of our decision. Sadly, rescheduling isn’t an option so latein the season, and with so many other events going on, but we’re lookingforward to holding the event at WPNSA in 2020.
