Welcome to the Club People Development Page.
On this page you will be able to find out more information about development opportunities for the people involved in your club.
If your club has a group of volunteers wishing to gain an instructor qualification in the small boat programme (windsurf, dinghy or powerboat) then we would love to work with you to train your volunteers up in preparation for the 2019 season. We will look at the requirements needed to gain that qualification and work with you to create a personal club pathway that will take this group through the whole process.
Below you will see the courses that we are offering and numbers of people required to make the course viable. Plus the number of days training required if all qualification requirements are needed.
The cost of delivery will need to be covered by the club or split between the participants. These costs are dependent on what is required for the individual club and needs of the people looking to gain the qualification. Please also note that all boats/ boards will need to be provided by the delivering location.
Start Windsurf Instructor - 8 people
Dinghy Instructor – 6 or 12 people
Race Coach Level 2 (dinghy or keelboat) – 6 people
Keelboat Instructor – 6 people
Powerboat Instructor– 6 people
If you don't quite meet these numbers how about speaking with your neighbouring club(s) and putting on a joint course between you. If there is an instructor qualification not listed above that is of interest then please contact me.
Discover Instructing & Coaching days aim to support clubs to meet their need to deliver
The day looks to inspire club volunteers to engage themselves in the delivery of club activity and potentially set their eye on becoming a qualified race coach or instructor. A trained RYA tutor will work with your club and deliver a practical session which will introduce potential coaches and instructors to the principles of effective coaching and teaching.
After completing the Discover Instructing & Coaching day, the next step for participants is to consider attending a Race Coach Level 2 course, an Assistant Instructor session at your club or and RYA Dinghy Instructor Course, or an instructor course at assistant or dinghy level. If your club would like to host one of these days for your club volunteers please complete our application form to receive more information.
If you are keen to coach sailors at your club or looking to improve your skills and techniques to coach racing to youth and adult sailors, the Level 2 Coach Course if for you! Find out more about the course here.

Do you want to improve your club's race management, or train up some new people for your race teams? We are once again running Club Race Management Team Days. Last year our co
urses were attended by over 200 people in a number of clubs in the South Region.
So why not inspire and encourage more members to become involved in running your events and give a refresher to those who are involved? How often is it that the same people seem to wind up having to running everything?
Running racing is not rocket science and can be great fun, so let's see if we can get more people in your club involved, particularly younger members and women.
If you wish to have a course at your Club please follow this link below to arrange a date. Courses would ideally be run before spring 2019.

It's always one of our most popular events of the year, and 2020
will be no exception. Moving to a new location the event is being hosted in partnership with the University of Southampton at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton in the 28th March!
Bookings are currently open and the online booking form and agenda can be found here.
If you are based in the Channel Islands then we are hosting a smaller event with the same aims on the 22nd March and you can book here.
The South Instructor Training Day is a great opportunity to broaden your knowledge and get the latest RYA training. We encourage all qualified instructors to come along as our top Coaches and Trainers will be delivering expert workshops throughout the day.
The day offers the opportunities to network with other instructors in your area and offers a variety of practical workshops, focused on fun! There is often the chance to trial some new equipment too!
If you have any questions, please do get in touch with Susie Moore the Regional Development Officer for the RYA South Region. Find our contact details here.
