Help get sailing and windsurfing reinstated to the PE activity list

The Department for Education has released its public consultation and is inviting proposals to add activities to the GCSE, AS and A-level education activity list. We want your help to seize this opportunity.

Background

Sailing and Windsurfing were removed in 2014 by the Department for Education from the list of GCSE, AS-level and A-level activities. The Department of Education’s awarding organisations made the decision that students can not be appropriately assessed in a recreational form of the activity. The list is based upon the level at which an activity is suitable to assess.

We need you

The RYA challenged the Awarding Organisations’ reasoning of the suitability of activities to be included in the eligible list & need your help to support our case.

Take action now

The RYA is encouraging its members and supporters, as well as parents and teachers, to submit their own responses to the consultation, you can do that below:

To help people with the consultation we have produced a handy guide covering our views on the 7 key questions.

The public consultation closes on 20 December 2018. For more guidance on how to respond to the consultation, please contact the RYA Cruising, Legal and Government Affairs team at legal@rya.org.uk.

We feel this consultation is critical for the future recognition of our sport and the engagement of many new sailors of the future.
