Push the Boat Out

Push the Boat Out  2018 takes place for the whole of May! We are delighted that there are already over 250 sailing venues signed up to take part.

Last year over 32,000 people attended events across the UK. We know Open days and taster events are now one of the main ways people discover the sport so this is a great chance to be part of a national 'have a go' event with all the resources and promotional support that goes with that.

This year we will again support up to 400 venues so make sure you sign up to secure your PTBO resource pack.

RYA Dinghy Show

Just around the corner is the RYA Dinghy Show which once again offers exclusive club events. Don't miss the Club Briefing at 10.30am on Saturday 3rd March where RYA staff will be presenting on a range of topics to inform and update clubs to help make the season a success. Clubs can send up to two representatives and each attendee to the Briefing will receive a complimentary RYA Dinghy Show ticket which will be available for collection at the end of the Briefing.

The Class Association & Club Workshops taking place throughout the weekend cover a range of topics which can make a huge difference to your club, as well as providing a great opportunity to mingle with other like-minded club members to share your success stories and challenges.

Places at the Briefing and Workshops are now available so book now.

Thank you from PY online

Thank you to all clubs that submitted their Portsmouth Yardstick race returns last year. The effectiveness and accuracy of the PY system relies on clubs feeding back their PY race data, so all the hard work of individual members involved in the race results and handicapping systems for their club is greatly appreciated.

This month the RYA’s Empirical Handicap Advisory Group (EHAG) are meeting to analyse all the data received. The Group collects all the data together and works through all the trends and anomalies that appear, whilst taking in to consideration design development and build techniques seen across some classes. At the end of the process the 2018 Portsmouth Yardstick Numbers list will be finalised.

Watch this space for the official launch of the 2018 PY List at The RYA Dinghy Show in early March, where sailors and clubs will be able to discuss changes with the RYA Technical Team in person.

In the meantime, the RYA encourages clubs to keep uploading any race results from during these quieter winter months to the PY Online website. Sending results to the website as races happen allows PY analysis to take place throughout the year, as well as meaning there is not a large PY Return to organise and submit at the end of the season.
