RYA Rules Disputes Procedures – Post-Race Penalty
The RYA Rules Disputes procedures have been in place for over ten years now and have been successful in supplementing formal protest hearings with informal advisory hearings and with RYA Arbitration. They introduced the concept of an ‘Exoneration Penalty’, a penalty which is less severe than disqualification (the penalty from a protest hearing for an incident on the water), which a boat can take after finishing and before the start of any protest hearing. World Sailing has introduced its own form of arbitration (Appendix T to the Racing Rules of Sailing), which uses the term ‘Post-Race Penalty’; consequently, the RYA has decided to replace ‘Exoneration Penalty’ in its procedures with ‘Post-Race Penalty’ with immediate effect.
The RYA Rules Disputes procedures can be found at www.rya.org.uk/go/rulesdisputes, and other racing rules information can be found at www.rya.org.uk/racingrules.
Could you be the GBR eSailing National Champion?
The RYA are pleased to have partnered with World Sailing and Virtual Regatta, the leading digital sailing platform, to launch the GBR eSailing National Championship. Officially launched at the RYA Dinghy Show in March, the free-to-play online game provides players with an opportunity to race against friends, fellow sailors and real-world Olympic champions.
All players from the United Kingdom will automatically be entered into the exclusive GBR eSailing National Championship, racing the same challenges, seasons and playoffs as the eSailing World Championship and ranking both nationally and globally.
The inaugural season will end on 01 September 2019 with the top British eSailor crowned the 2019 GBR eSailing National Champion. The top ranking 10 British eSailors will automatically qualify for the eSailing World Championship Finals Playoff taking place in early September, with the top eight advancing to the 2019 eSailing World Championship Final in Bermuda.

OnBoard development days
RYA OnBoard are moving to the next level when it comes to educating instructors and volunteers, through regional development days that have been running across the country. Exclusive to OnBoard venues, these opportunities for continued professional development are allowing the RYA to communicate clearly the work that has been taking place with Prof. Bill Lucas around the broader learning benefits of sailing and windsurfing, and more importantly how to translate this into on or off the water fun sessions.
The development days are an integral part of the growth of junior participation through the grass roots programme. Working with people who are on the ground, delivering sessions on a regular basis and who have the most influence supporting young people continue with the sport.
