RYA Race Officials Development

Project 2024 set for launch

The RYA is looking for aspirational individuals to join a race officials development project, dubbed “Project 2024” – a project to develop and promote Race Officials under the age of 35, and inspire the next generation to look in to the opportunities that being a Race Official offers. Applications to join the Project will be launching in September 2018.

The aim is to identify a group of aspirational people under the age of 35 to join the project to receive cross-discipline training, education and event opportunities to support their development through to National RYA Race Official qualifications status (including mark laying, race officers, equipment inspectors, judges and umpires).

This cross-discipline learning means that all participants would be able to contribute to the delivery of a major sail racing event and inspire others through their experiences. The creation of a social and enjoyable environment, coupled with peer mentoring, throughout the duration of the Project will hopefully ensure volunteers sustain their commitment and share the overall Project’s ambition and end goal of being at a level to attend the Olympics Games in Paris 2024 in a Race Official position.

Racing at sailing clubs around the UK could not happen without the endless work of 1000s of volunteers who support the sport, and in amongst them are some perfect candidates for Project 2024. Could your Club identify an individual(s) who would be interested in joining? The RYA is looking for a group of about 20 volunteers between the ages of 18-35; the group will be gender equal. Applicants do not need to be an existing Race Official.

Please email Jacqui.roberts@rya.org.uk for more details on the application process to join the Project or to put forwards someone from your Club.
