RYA Raymarine Training Conference supported by Gallagher

Saturday and Sunday 30 -31 January 2021

Who for? : Instructors across the powerboat, personal watercraft, inland waterways and sail and motor cruising schemes, as well as senior instructors, coaches, trainers and training centre principals across all the RYA training schemes. Find out more here.

Why is it important for my club?

This is a great chance for those involved with organising training at your club to get ready for the year ahead.

Details: Delegates can expect the usual scheme updates at this virtual event from the RYA Chief Instructors and advice from the RYA team, including a look at the impact of Covid and Brexit. As ever there will also be opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD) and expert-led workshops, covering a range of relevant topics. Speakers include British Marine Futures Report author Liz Rushall looking what the future holds for consumer trends and training; Elite sport consultant Alan Olive talking about developing teams in lockdown; Hayley Jarvis from mental health charity Mind, Captain Andrew Moll from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) and Dr Ivan Haigh from the University of Southampton.

Sailability Conference

Saturday 13 February 2021

Who for? Volunteers, sailors and club members interested in Sailability

Why is it important for my club?

Sailability activity has been hard hit in 2020 and this event will help volunteers in clubs to regroup, restart and rebuild.

Details: A wealth of information to help plan for the coming season, with a packed programme which includes a range of experts and headline speaker Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, who will be joining the conference live. The event will be streamed via YouTube, Facebook and on the website. 

There will also be a chance to explore some topics in more depth over the two weeks after the conference, when there will be a programme of Development Sessions streamed live and available on demand afterwards.

RYA Dinghy Show

Saturday and Sunday 27-28 February

Who for? Anyone who is a fan of dinghy sailing!

Why is it important for my club?

This is a fantastic opportunity to kick start yours and your members’ sailing season and will help to encourage them back onto the water (and to renew their membership!).

Details: Talks and coaching sessions from world class sailors and epic adventurers, exclusive show offers from exhibitors, interactive coaching sessions and competitions. Hosted by professional sailor and speaker Hannah Diamond, the virtual RYA Dinghy Show presented by Suzuki and supported by Yachts & Yachting, will help you kick start the 2021 sailing season!

Look out for all your RYA Dinghy Show favourites, including Olympic coach Mark Rushall, British Sailing Team meteorologist Simon Rowell, dinghy historian David Henshall, and our Team GB athletes as they get set for the Olympics in Tokyo. Join in from any device, wherever you are.

Instructor Training Day

Saturday 13 March

Who for? Sailing, windsurfing and powerboat, PW and IW instructors

Why is it important for my club?

This is the event to get your team of instructors and coaches ready for the season ahead.

Details: To ensure instructors are fully up-to-speed and prepared for a new season as soon as restrictions allow, staff across the seven RYA Regions and three Home Countries are working together to host a free Virtual Instructor Training Day.

  • Find out about the CPD opportunities in your region for subsidised/free further training for volunteers and instructors
  • Watch national presenters who are specialists in their field with a wide perspective on our sport and more
  • Take advantage of the chance to watch multiple workshops - the event will be recorded, so you will be able to catch up on additional presentations afterwards

The packed agenda will include inspirational workshops from eight exciting national presenters, addressing a variety of disciplines, as well as crucial updates from RDOs and RYA Training. Regional/Home Country practical on-water sessions will be organised to complement the virtual event, with limited numbers, as soon as governme1nt guidelines allow.

RYA Cruising Conference

Who for? Regulars and novices ranging from those who already enjoy cruising to those who may simply be interested in finding out more about it.

Why is it important for my club?

Another great event to help your clubs members get fired up and ready for the season ahead and to help maintain engagement and ensure membership renewals.

Details: Interactive virtual event offering real-life stories from cruising sailors, practical advice from the RYA and all the latest updates on travelling around the EU. The RYA Cruising Conference will include live speakers, pre-recorded videos and virtual exhibition stands where you can chat to experts, with an exciting range of topics for both inland and offshore sailors, including a rope skills refresher, the future of charts for leisure sailors, and how to read the weather to get the best out of your day on the water!
