Applications open on 01 August for the 2020 RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Awards, supported by Gallagher.
For the second year, the RYA Awards Panel will select a finalist for each of the 10 RYA regions, as well as two ‘wild card’ entries. During this shortlisting stage, the panel will provide five clubs with recognition for particular achievements in the following areas:
- Boosting membership
- Innovation and forward thinking
- Inclusive and open to all
- Fantastic facilities
- Embracing modern communications
All finalist clubs will then go through to a public vote, with the overall winner selected by RYA members, Yachts & Yachting readers and the panel. The 2020 Club of the Year will be announced at the RYA Dinghy Show on 29 February.
A year to remember
With 11 deserving finalists, a boat and coaching prize package from RS Sailing and just one coveted trophy up for grabs, the 2019 awards were bigger than ever before. But while Royal Torbay Yacht Club were ultimately crowned as champions, all 11 finalists have felt the impact.
Sue Nash, Commodore at Dell Quay Sailing Club and 2019 South region finalist, said: “We entered as a way of gaining recognition for those who make our club what it is today – a way of saying thank you. Whether you win or not, to be a finalist is rewarding in itself.”
Chris Brown from Blackwater Sailing Club and 2019 East region finalist, added: “We are very proud of our win for the Eastern region, and believe that the process has really helped to promote our club, as well as sailing more generally in the Blackwater area.”
Club applications close on 20 September 2019. For more information visit www.rya.org.uk/go/cluboftheyear.
