Club sign up is now open for Push the Boat Out 2019
For the second year, RYA Push the Boat Out (PTBO) will be running throughout the month of May, enabling even more venues to participate. Early in the sailing season, it’s a great opportunity for clubs to take part in a national initiative and to attract their local community to come and have a go at sailing.
Taster sessions held throughout May this year inspired thousands to get out on the water, with some 3,500 new sailors joining their local club as a direct result of an event. Running as a month long campaign for the first time, 2018 proved to be the most successful PTBO to date with more than 39,000 people attending an open day.
Open days were hugely popular with both new participants as well as longer term club members and volunteers. Susan McKnight from Strangford Lough Yacht Club commented how their Push the Boat Out event was enjoyed by both participants and club members and has ultimately lead to increased participation at the club.
She said: “We had new member applications, people signing up for our women on water, crew sailing and junior sailing programmes as well as booking onto our adult and youth learn to sail courses. The general atmosphere in the club has really changed and a lot of members are now coming forward to volunteer”.
It was a similar story at clubs all over the UK as Liz Kirby from Marconi Sailing Club explains: “Our visitor feedback was very positive, both about the club and also the link with the RYA via Push the Boat Out. We had visitors join the club on the day as well as others who have since come back to see the club again and then joined.”
If you would like to be part of RYA Push the Boat Out in May 2019 sign up for PTBO Activators is now open. Clubs are encouraged to register as soon possible to avoid missing out.
