A group of like-minded women – who have been involved
in sailing from a young age or as part of the recent RYANI Women on Water
programmes - are getting ready to celebrate with a day-long festival at
Strangford Lough Yacht Club in September.
RYANI has brought the group together to organise the
festival, which will take place on 7 September 2019. It is open to women who
have taken part in the initiative over the last four years.
On the day there will be plenty of chances to get out
on the water, to try out lots of boating activities, and even give stand up
paddle boarding a go.
Rachel Nixon from Donaghadee Sailing Club and
Ballyholme Yacht Club is on the organising committee for the event. She
commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has taken part in
the Women on Water programme to come along and meet other like-minded people.
“We have all been through a fantastic experience and
have had a great introduction to sailing. The festival gives us all an
opportunity to meet up, get out on the water and share memories – as well as
making some new ones!”
RYANI’s Active Clubs Coordinator Lisa McCaffrey
commented: “This is the fourth year of our very successful Women on Water
initiative and it continues to grow from strength to strength.
“We have had hundreds of women taking part over the
years – this is a chance for everyone to get together and have some fun and
learn some more new skills.”
As well as sailing opportunities, there will be
workshops on the day and a fun night out with cocktails to close the festival.
