Last summer, Alex Holliday, a student of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and a keen member of Tankerton Bay Sailing Club, suddenly and tragically passed away whilst on a school trip to Cuba.

Alex was an active member of the club along with his parents and his sister. Alex was a keen and gifted sportsman. In recognition of this, his parents requested donations to each of his beloved sports clubs in his memory. After careful consideration the TSBC committee concluded that the funds received should go to perpetuating Alex’s passion for sailing, forming The Alex Holliday Trust.

Each year one pupil from year 9 at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, who would otherwise not have had the chance to sail.will be selected for a scholarship with TSBC. The chosen cadet will get a full honorary membership until the end of the year, training to RYA Level 1 in Dinghy Sailing, use of a club boat & suitable equipment, use of club facilities on sailing days, entry into Bart’s Bash and support throughout.

Students at the school had the chance to apply after a presentation was delivered to them. After much interest, total applicants were shortlisted to four and the final chosen cadet was selected by Alex’s parents based on their written submissions. The scholarship has been awarded to Hannah Richards

Alex’s presence is greatly missed throughout the club and the club hope that they can continue to honour his passion to sailing through the trust for many years to come.
