Draycote Water Sailing Club will discover if it has been voted Britain’s best sailing club when the winner of the 2020 RYA and Yachts & Yachting Club of the Year Award, supported by Gallagher, is revealed next Saturday (29 February).

The Warwickshire club is one of 10 finalists shortlisted for the prestigious national award, which celebrates the outstanding achievements of sailing clubs across the UK and promotes the hard work and dedication that goes into getting more people on the water. The winner will be announced at the RYA Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace in London.

Voting was open to the public until late January and Draycote has been busy rallying support from people within both the local and sailing communities, who have enjoyed and benefitted from taking part in the many different sailing, windsurfing, powerboating and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) activities the club runs.

By investing in its facilities and training activities, setting-up regular sessions to appeal to specific groups of people and introducing successful mass participation events, more than 200 local people are learning to sail at Draycote Water SC every year, while the club has more than 750 members.

The Club of the Year Award was launched by the RYA, sailing’s governing body in 2008, and for the third year, the RYA and Yachts & Yachting have joined forces to present this combined trophy.

The nine other shortlisted clubs are from Scotland, the Yorkshire Dales, Bolton, Anglesey, Northern Ireland, Dorset, Hampshire and West Sussex.
