Following the launch of the new joint DIY Safe Antifouling Initiative earlier this year at the London Boat Show 2017, a new video has been released to broadcast the initiative's key messages. The project is being delivered by the British Coatings Federation (BCF), British Marine and the RYA.
The 'Antifouling Your Boat Safely' video features important health and safety advice and practical hints and tips for people who paint their own boats with antifouling paint.
The eight-minute video takes viewers through the antifouling process step-by-step, from preparation through to clean up, highlighting best practice approaches to ensuring personal safety as well as protecting the environment.
The video was prepared for the BCF's Marine Coatings Group (MCG), which is made up of antifouling paint manufacturers and suppliers, many of whom are British Marine members, who want to make sure that their products continue to be used safely by the public.
Antifouling paint has an important role to play in combatting the spread of invasive non-native species and other harmful organisms but, by its very nature, antifouling can also pose a risk to humans and to the environment. The DIY Safe Antifouling Initiative already includes a range of freely-available resources for reference and display, including a poster, trifold and a 16-page guidance document. To find out more, or to download any of these tools, visit www.safeantifouling.com.
