The RYA Scotland Instructor Gathering is shaping up to be a fantastic event. We will be joined by both Richard Falk, the Director of Training and Qualifications and Amanda Van Santen, Sailing and Windsurfing: Chief instructor. The date for this event is 23rd of February at the Double Tree by Hilton Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld.

The programme is currently being finalised and is full of interactive workshops with lots of opportunity for networking. The planned workshops will include; Autism in Boating, Writing operating procedures, Green Blue for Instructors and Foiling.

We will be bringing back the opportunities for Clubs and Centres to place adverts for Instructors and will also have the chance for instructors to let clubs and centres know that they are available for work. This is an area which can be very challenging for both parties and so we hope that this will go some way in making it a little easier.

On Sunday the 24th of February, with a name change for 2019, the RYA Scotland Development Conference takes place at the same venue. The theme recognises the need to engage across our sport and communities with the aim of discussing ‘Ideas for Change’. We shall be starting with a session around the recent research from the British Marine Futures project, highlighting how the changes within the Sailing & Boating Industry shall affect us all. The conference is open to all clubs, centres & organisations involved in boating and shall not only examine the current and future landscape but look at how organisations can diversify and future-proof themselves.

As always, we’ll have a number of ideas and best practice from clubs and organisations across Scotland as well as a new Carousel option for quick, informative updates! Topics shall include discussions on Green boating & the environment, A Place for Everyone, Facility Development as well as preview the 2019 Push the Boat Out.

Liza Linton, RYA Scotland Development Manager, confirmed that “the 2019 conference shall once again be a great opportunity for organisations to gain ideas on how to progress and future-proof themselves whilst encouraging networking. The information around the current industry shall help to shape the day with partners from across the Scottish and UK landscape adding further information & layers of support. We also can’t wait to share our new Club Development Framework and start conversations around a Volunteer support initiative!”

"The Westerwood is a brilliant venue for events and we are really excited about having the opportunity to bring both the Instructors Gathering and Development Conference there. Also the lunch is fantastic.”

Booking for both events will be going live on the 12th of December so please keep a look out in your emails; the RYA Scotland Website and across our social media channels.
