The donation has come from the Rotary Club of Rochdale East whose President this year is well-known North West sailor and RYA NW President Graham Knox (the one with his arm raised in the picture- the other is fellow Rotarian Bob Brierley).

The Rotarian's main project, the President's Charity, has been the provision of a Hansa Dinghy for Hollingworth Lake for by sailors with limited mobility or a disability.

Through a number of fundraising events thoughout the year, the Rotary club managed to cover the costs of the dinghy which are in the region of 8,500.

The dinghy, a Hansa 303 is a versatile model with a wide seat giving sufficient room for two adults, whilst the two sails gives a positive role for both helm and crew.

It is an ideal boat for a persons very first sail as they can be accompanied by an experienced sailor.

It can also be fitted with an assisted mainsheet and helm which is very useful for training and building confidence of sailors with limited mobility or disability as they can be accompanied on their first steps. This can be very reassuring as they learn both how to sail and to use the controls.

The boat, which has  been named "Gracie" in reference to Rochdale's very own Gracie Fields will remain in storage whilst final touches are applied to the dinghy with a planned launch in March of 2016.
