For the past 6 years the RYA Scotland Annual Awards have helped to bring the sailing community in Scotland to together to recognise just some of the achievements and the commitment of people within our sport and the wider activities around boating. Without these people and many more like them our activities would not be possible.

The 2019 awards has responded to feedback year with a few changes among the categories and the opportunity to get behind a Scottish Club in the 2020 RYA / Yacht and Yachting Club of the Year Awards.

Annually we receive a great deal of nominations highlighting some excellent contributions to sailing or boating in Scotland. We recruit an independent judging panel to help narrow down the submissions to a shortlist and an eventual winner for each award.

Many nominators take time to submit excellent and detailed nominations each year. We are extremely grateful as this often brings to light inspiring stories of volunteers, influencers and dedicated performers.

The categories represent a range of roles undertaking predominately by volunteers who make a significant impact within the sport or activity. Nominations are open to all for the following areas.

Volunteer of the Year

Instructor of the Year

Race Official of the Year

Young Person of the Year

The Elizabeth Mackay Award

Performance of the Year

We have added the Performance of the Year due to the broad range of competition in which Scots compete on the water. It provides the opportunity to recognise the inspiring results of across as many areas as possible.

As Elizabeth Mackay was a pioneer in encouraging participation in boating, particularly for women and young people in Scotland. RYA Scotland would like to extend the reach of the trophy to celebrate our activity being inclusive and accessible to all.

This year have three awards will be nominated by the sailors, volunteers and parents involved in the Performance Pathway, these include:

Class Academy Sailor of the Year

Performance Sailor of the Year

Performance Coach of the Year

An independent judging panel will shortlist three nominees and a winner from each category with full details of guidelines and criteria available within the nominations forms.

The RYA Scotland Club of the Year will be integrated as a finalist for the 2020 RYA / Yacht and Yachting Club of the Year. Applications can be submitted from the 1st of August through to the 20th of September. Full details of guidelines and application is made directlyvia
