Youth and junior sailors ranging from rookies to experienced racers are being urged to take part in this year's North East Youth Travellers Series.

The 2019 series kicks off on 13 April at Ulley SC in the south and on 4 May at Tynemouth SC in the north, and in total will visit 14 fantastic clubs, providing a variety of inland and coastal venues for young sailors to develop their racing skills.

The series is organised by the Regional Volunteer Team and each event offers a competitive yet friendly racing environment, with on-the-water support for those who need or want it to help improve their boat handling and know-how.

Sponsored by Harken, there will be prizes for each event, for the north and south of the region, and for the series overall, with a joint prize-giving at Ripon Sailing Club on Saturday 6 July, 2019.

Regional chairman Ian Smith said: "We are proud to be associated with Harken, who have come on board as the series sponsor, providing items for the first 50 entrants as well as larger prizes for the overall prize-giving.

"The series starts at Ulley with a mix of race training and racing so that newcomers to the series can have a gentle introduction under the watchful eye of the coaches, who will be on hand to help them get the most out of their sailing.

"The ethos of the series is to provide a competitive and friendly introduction to racing for junior and youth sailors who are looking for varied competition away from their home club but without having to spend too much time travelling. We look forward to seeing everyone during the course of the series. Good luck and happy sailing!"

Organisers would like to assist host clubs by providing an "expected entries" list to help with planning catering and race team requirements. Please sign up to register your interest for each event - entry and payment will still be made on the day - by emailing here with your name, boat, sail number and home club. Support from parents is also very much welcomed and any volunteers willing to help to manage the series in their part of the region are also urged to get in touch.

Full details of the series dates, host clubs and qualification criteria can be found on the event website, which is also where results will be posted. All of the open meetings take place on a Saturday, and the full list of dates for 2019 is as follows:
