Heading into its 7th season, the ever-popular Powerboat GP series organisers have published their revised racing calendar and launched the 2018 RYA British Championship. With the return of the popular Rother Valley circuit, it looks set to be another sensational season for the competitors and spectators alike.
Throughout the summer months competitors the length and breadth of Britain will travel to the Stewartby Watersports Club and the Rother Valley Country Park to compete to become the 2018 Powerboat GP RYA British Champions. Racers, crews and spectators will descend on these popular venues to watch the season's action unfold as the competitors all battle for the top spot.
Even though the championship series will only be hosted at two venues, Powerboat GP are looking at changing the courses up to offer some more challenges to the competitors and more entertainment for the spectators. The past few years have seen Championship campaigns so close in every class that they go right down to the very last chequered flag of the season and 2018 promises nothing less.
The 2018 Powerboat GP RYA British Championship will kick off in style in just a few weeks' time on the 19-20 May at the Bedford GP1 event. With seven championship crowns up for grabs, teams will be looking to clinch those all-important points from the first Grand Prix of the year.
Competitors will then return to Stewartby on the 04-05 August for the individual sprint championship which will also count towards the overall series points. There promises to be some great entertainment from the always popular Sprint weekend.
The action really goes into overdrive when the WNT Rother Valley International GP gets underway on the 01-02 September as we host the F4 and GT30 World Championships as well as a round of the RYA F2 and P750 British Championships on the same weekend. Ticket information and event info will be announced soon.
The Competitors will then return to the Stewartby Watersports Club for the championship series final events with the Bedford GP3 being held on the 15-16 September and the Final round - Bedford GP4 taking place on the 06-07 October.
Luke Jones of Powerboat GP had this to say about his revised calendar: "Despite some unexpected difficulties, Powerboat GP has today been able to confirm a strong 2018 calendar.
"We have had difficulties with unforeseen circumstances and reduced participation numbers but we hope that our continued hard work and dedication to the sport will ensure that our competitors and loyal fans have some good on-water entertainment to enjoy in and a full season of powerboat racing at its best."
Jones continued: "We are looking forward to welcoming our competitors old and new, and are especially excited to secure the F4 and GT30 World Championships at Rother Valley in September. It is a perfect venue for Powerboat Racing which will produce some spectacular racing. We are also delighted to confirm our continued cooperation with our partners at WNT and thank them for their continued investment and support."
