The RYA is looking to select young sailors on behalf of the British Paralympic Association for entry into the European Para Youth Games.

The European Para Youth Games is a multi-sport Paralympic event taking part in Liguria, Italy in October 2017. Sailing is one of the sports and will be in Hansa 303s, crewed by two people.

To apply to take part, young sailors aged between 12 and 23 must detail their racing experience, explain their ambition in the sport, outline how they will benefit from the event and show they can represent the United Kingdom with distinction.

In addition, sailors must:

  • Meet the minimum disability requirements under the World Sailing Paralympic Sailing Classification system (sailors don't have be currently classified but will need to demonstrate they are likely to meet the requirements - advice and guidance on this is available)
  • Be eligible to represent the United Kingdom in line with the IPC nationality criteria - in short, be a national of the United Kingdom
  • Be aged between 12 and 23 on 31st Dec 2017

Registration, measurement and training take place on the 09-10 October, with the Opening Ceremony on the 11 and racing from the 12-14 October 2017.

Applications are requested in writing (500 words maximum) and sent to joff.mcgill@rya.org.uk before the 30th August 2017. All applications will be considered by an RYA selection panel. An RYA handbook details the selection process in full, and should be read by all applicants.

Sailors can either apply individually (and the RYA will create a two person team from those who are selected) or as a team.

For those selected the RYA will meet the costs of the entry fee and accommodation, make a contribution towards travel and provide two support team members to cover the roles of coach, team leader tor helper. Hansa 303s will be provided by the event organisers. Other costs, including subsistence should be met by the sailors.
