RYA Scotland are really excited to collaborate with 12 individuals from across Scotland to help grow active women and girls in our clubs and centres.  These Pioneers will work on varying projects which will target different groups.

We had our first session together in April where we explored barriers in our sport and looked for creative ways to overcome them to help make boating more inclusive.  We are currently developing each initiative and will begin activity over the Summer.

Prestwick Sailing Club have already started a Women on Water programme on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings which is open to women and girls of all ages and abilities.  Some of the other initiatives are looking at promoting family sailing sessions or going into schools to promote local opportunities.

Sailing offers a unique opportunity to people of all ages and abilities to engage in a sport for life. The pioneers project will look to break down some of the perceptions and change people’s lives. The promotion of breaking down the barriers is really important to the group.  We will be looking at gathering content from across Scotland.  Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.
