Stuart Jones has joined the RYA SW team as a Sailing Development Officer (SDO) and will be working initially with OnBoard Clubs and Centres in the Plymouth and South Devon area, as well as the South West Lakes Trust sites at Siblyback and Roadford.
Many of you may already know Stuart, who worked as an OnBoard Development Officer in the region some years ago. He is a RYA Dinghy Coach, Windsurf Instructor, Powerboat Instructor and Race Coach Level 2. He has been working in the Outdoor Activities sector for 30 years, running specialist youth projects, commercial centres and charity-based organisations around Europe and the UK before settling in the South West. He also runs a funding and development consultancy, helping people and organisations apply for grants.
Outside of work, Stuart and his family have a yacht in Plymouth, and he is a member of Hooe Point Sailing Club, racing a RS200 dinghy. “I’m more interested in tactics so crew is the position for me,” he says. He has two sons – 15-year-old Luke sails at the club as well as playing basketball, while Sam (10) thinks that sailing is horrible and prefers rugby and horseriding!
Stuart will shortly be in touch with all the OnBoard clubs in his area to introduce (or reintroduce) himself and arrange a visit with a view to finding out how he can help maximise the opportunities for youngsters to learn to sail and windsurf.
You can contact him at any time at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07990 804081.
