Brenda Read has been nominated for a Lifetime Commitment Award by the RYA East Region Committee and has been selected as a winner by the RYA Honours and Awards Panel. She will receive her award at the organisation’s annual awards ceremony in London on 16 November.

Brenda has been active on many committees in support of sailing and the environment. She was Chair of the Harwich Area Sailing Association and a highly-valued member of the RYA East Region Committee, contributing significantly to regional decisions and a driving force on building relations between the Committee, the RYA East Integrated Team and other organisations. She has also been a passionate member of Orwell Yacht Club since the late 1960s, serving on the Management Committee for 20 years. With her enthusiasm and dedication, Brenda continues to support yachting and the environment in the Suffolk and Essex area.

Brenda said: “I am extremely surprised to have been considered for this award, I felt very honoured to be recognised for doing something that I love and enjoy. I am looking forward to meeting HRH The Princess Royal and networking with the other volunteers and award winners.”
