Over 40 delegates from the centres heard a variety of guest speakers covering topics including working with multi academy trusts and the Home School Network, enhancing the RYA OnBoard programme to schools and youth groups, apprenticeships in watersport centres, and instructor and volunteer development.
Delegates were able to meet other watersport centre managers and senior staff in one location to share good practice, challenges and ideas to support development and growth.
The symposium is part of the RYA’s regional plan to support watersport centres involved in RYA sport development programmes, and RYA programmes manager for sport development Michelle Gent and Port of London Authority sports participation and community outreach manager Jenny Cooper were on hand to help out.
RYA Regional Development Officer Steve Mitchell said: "This popular event enables the RYA’s regional team to meet with watersport centres to present and discuss items that effects them. While the agenda provides updates and fresh information. the day has also become a strong networking opportunity for the centres which is equally an important benefit."
RYA Regional Team Chair Helen Hofmann added: “RYA Training Centres provide the opportunity to learn and develop watersports skills with RYA instructors in a safe and monitored environment. Now in its third year, the conference provided additional sport development support to enable the centres to expand their offering further, to help open up watersports to many."
