A massive well done to all of the young Windsurfers and Sailors who headed south to Rutland Water to take part in the 2019 RYA Eric Twiname Championships representing Team Scotland last weekend.

The whole team including sailors, parents and coaches have put in a huge effort over the winter... and what a set of individual performances and results.  Scotland took 3rd place overall in the team ranking, a great result given the size of the fleets.

Sailors were challenged by a range of conditions over the weekend from big breeze of Super Saturday to light and shifty conditions on the Sunday and a perfect moderate sailing breeze on the Monday.

“The range of conditions provided a rigorous test of the skills built up over the winter training block.” Commented Matt Toynbee, RYA Scotland’s Class Academy Officer.

“The strength in depth of talent across Scotland is shown in the fact these sailors where from seven different clubs! Testament to the hard work and commitment brought in by coaches, sailors and parent and shows the power of the Academy programme. Look out for dates of this year’s winter academies will be released during the summer so book you can get them booked into diaries early.”

“Most importantly the weekend was a great introduction to big fleet racing for many of the Team who have not raced in a National level fleet and great practice for the events coming up this summer.”

This was Team Scotland’s best performance at the Eric Twiname Championships for a generation. With podium finishes in the following:

3rd Optimist Boy – William O’Keefe

3rd Topper Boy – Jamie Briggs

3rd Feva Girls – Anna Miller and Morven Wood

3rd Techno 4.5 Boy – Dylan Galloway
